Warsaw's skyline is dominated by an iconic symbol of the Soviet era. On this self-guided walking tour, you'll discover the Palace of Culture and Science — once known as Stalin's gift to Poland — and how this enormous 1950s structure reflects the city's complex relationship with its communist past. Starting at the kilometre zero marker near Dmowski roundabout, you'll circle the Palace grounds, passing 30 stone sculptures depicting industry, arts, and science. Along the way, spot a sundial built into the pavement, a flower clock over eight metres in diameter, and a pedestrian crossing painted like piano keys in tribute to Chopin. You'll also see how Warsaw's modern skyscrapers — including the EU's tallest building — have grown up around this controversial landmark. The tour ends at Patelnia square, a lively meeting point where performers and vendors create a Hyde Park-like atmosphere.
