  • Old Town if the price works

    Planty, the Main Square, Wawel in 10–15 minutes on foot. Most tour pickups stop here anyway. Avoid windows on the square itself if you want to sleep after 22:00 on a Friday.

  • Kazimierz for the evenings

    Closer to bars and kitchens, a bit further from the Cloth Hall. A good compromise when Old Town is sold out or too loud.

Before you go

Do not default to a Balice airport hotel

A hotel at KRK makes sense for a 06:00 departure or a landing after midnight. For every other trip, sleep in the city. Balice is a terminal and a car park, not a neighbourhood.

Parking versus walking

If you hire a car for the whole stay, check a hotel space — Old Town is paid and tight. If you only take a car for the Tatras, a hotel without parking on the square is the better layout.

Auschwitz and Wieliczka pickup

Most buses collect from a central hotel list. A loft in Zabłocie or Nowa Huta can mean a walk to the point. Read the pickup list on the tour before you pay for the “perfect loft”.

Where should I stay in Kraków the first time?

Old Town inside the Planty or Kazimierz. You spend evenings on foot, and the Auschwitz and Wieliczka buses stop here anyway. Grzegórzki and Dębniki are plan B when the centre is sold out.

Is a hotel at KRK airport worth it?

Only for absurd flight times. Otherwise you eat worse, see nothing and still need a transfer to every tour. Sleep in Kraków.

When do Kraków hotels sell out?

The May long weekend, June–August weekends, New Year, Easter and big concert dates. Book once flights are firm. Tuesdays in February are cheaper and quieter.

Can I cancel if the flight changes?
